Ruth Ann Porter, 75, of Taylorville, died Thursday, March 11, 2021, at 11:47 p.m. at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield.

She will be cremated and the family will host a Celebration of Life at a later date. McClure Funeral Home and Cremation Services in Taylorville is assisting the family with arrangements.

Mrs. Porter was born Feb. 15, 1946, in Breese, the daughter of John and Henrietta (Beer) Loepker. She married Richard Dean Porter on July 30, 1966, in Litchfield, and he survives.

A member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and the Women of the Moose in Taylorville, she worked for several years for the Breeze-Courier. She loved to work outdoors, spending countless hours tending to her yard, and even took over mowing yards for her son when he went to college.

She and her husband loved to travel. Together they toured the entire country on the back of a Goldwing motorcycle. When they were not traveling by motorcycle, they still drove and flew to countless destinations. In later years, they invited their granddaughters to join them. She and her husband enjoyed playing blackjack, a pastime that took them on many trips to Las Vegas, NV, and Tunica, MS. Above all, she adored her family, especially her grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by her children, Dawn (Marty) Durbin of Morrisonville and Jay (Michelle) Porter of Geneva; grandchildren, Jessie Borgic, Marissa Borgic, Shelby Porter, Sarah Porter and Amelia Durbin; sisters, Bert (Bob) Nash of Oneida, TN, Edna Zika of Edwardsville and Florence Pry of Belleville; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Jeff Porter; brother, Corky Loepker; and sister, Verena Brandt.
