S. Gene Guinn, 79, of Litchfield, died Monday, July 29, 2019, at 4:55 p.m. at HSHS St. Francis Hospital in Litchfield.
Visitation will be held Saturday, Aug. 3, from 1 to 3 p.m. at Plummer Funeral Home in Litchfield. Funeral services will follow at 3 p.m. at the funeral home, with the Rev. Ed. Fogle of Litchfield officiating.
Mr. Guinn was born April 1, 1940, in Schram City, a son of Stanley Perdue and Josephine Leona (Adams) Guinn. He married H. Gretchen Buskohl on June 19, 1960, at Union Avenue Christian Church in Litchfield, and she survives.
A graduate of Hillsboro High School, he was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He later worked as a correctional officer at Stateville and Vandalia Correctional facilities. He then became a police officer and worked for the city of Litchfield for 30 years, and retired as sergeant in 2005.
He was a member of Union Avenue Christian Church in Litchfield, the NRA and a former member of Blue Knights. He enjoyed bird watching, fishing and hunting.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Tony E. (Lanette) Guinn of Mt. Olive and John C. Guinn of Litchfield; one sister, Sandra K. (Charles) Watson of Hillsboro; seven grandchildren, Tyler Guinn and Brandon Guinn, both of Mt. Olive, Ethan (Kiersten) Guinn of Crestview, FL, Kyle Guinn of Mt. Olive, Erin (Justin) Wakefield and Danielle (Ray) Norton, all of Hope Mills, NC, and Pastor Dustin Guinn of Supply, NC; and great-grandchildren, Cadence and Cyrus Wakefield and Anthony.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, William Guinn; and a great-grandchild, Coda Wakefield.
