Sarah L. Egbert, 92, of Carmi, died on Monday, April 15, 2019, at Deaconess Gateway Hospital in Newburgh.

Visitation will be held Thursday, April 18, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Stendeback Family Funeral Home in Carmi. Funeral services will be conducted Friday, April 19, beginning at 10 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Stokes Chapel Cemetery in Crossville.

Mrs. Egbert was born Dec. 25, 1926, in McLeansboro, to Azarah and Salena (Gwaltney) McDaniel. She married Wallace "Tom" Egbert on July 4, 1942, in East St. Louis, and he preceded her in death on June 11, 2000.

Early in her marriage, she and her husband operated an ice and coal business, then later operated various bars in the Carmi area.

Mrs. Egbert was a member of the VFW and American Legion auxiliaries and the Ladies of the Moose. When her children were young, she was an active Girl Scouts leader.

She is survived by her sons, Wallace "Wally" (Mary Ann), William "Bill" (Anna), Leslie "Les" (Judy), Larry (Linda) and Mike "Spud" (Kim) Egbert; daughters, Carol (Van) Naylor, Glena (Delbert) Kelly and Betty Beets; 30 grandchildren; 64 great-grandchildren; 26 great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband, Mrs. Egbert was preceded in death by two sons, Eddie and Bob; and 12 brothers and sisters.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Hillsboro Public Library.
