The Nokomis Fire Department, aided by departments from Fillmore, Witt and Pana, battled a shed fire (the shed contained a tractor as well as hay bales) early Saturday, Sept. 19, on the Paul Sullivan property on the north side of Nokomis.
The call came at 2 a.m.; the two trucks and five firefighters Fillmore sent were on scene until 6 a.m., and Nokomis' 12 volunteers didn't clear the scene until 7:20. The cause is still undetermined.
Twenty Hillsboro firefighters responded to a field fire near Bremer Sanctuary Rd. north of town on the North Road at 3:03 p.m. Saturday afternoon, Sept. 20. They were on site until 3:31 p.m.
No Leak Found
Four Hillsboro firefighters investigated a suspected natural gas leak at the county jail, 140 N. Main Street, at 2:34 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 17. Nothing amiss was found, and the responders returned to quarters at 2:53.
Diesel Fuel Leak
A missing fuel cap on a diesel fuel reservoir of a semi meant a run to the Coal Field Rest area along 1-55 for 15 Raymond-Harvel firefighters Wednesday, Sept. 16, at 8:21 p.m. They were back in service at 8:59.
A 1994 GMC Jimmy was lost to fire near the Coal Field rest area on 1-55 Wednesday evening, Sept. 16. Nineteen Raymond/Harvel firefighters were dispatched to the scene at 10:15 p.m.; they were back in quarters by 11:35.
An accidently activated pull alarm at Heritage Health in Litchfield meant a trip to 628 South Illinios Avenue at 12:34 p.m. for seven members of the Litchfield Fire Department on Saturday, Sept. 19; they were back in service at 12:46.
