Second COVID Death Reported This Month

The Montgomery County Health Department announced the 76th coronavirus death in the county on Monday, Sept. 20, the second this month.

The two September COVID-19 deaths come after three months of no pandemic fatalities during the summer months of June, July and August.  Before the reported deaths on Sept. 2 and Sept. 20, the previous one was reported on May 12.

After 18 new COVID-19 cases on Friday, eight on Saturday, six on Sunday, and 12 on Monday, the local positivity rate for the past week is 6.2 percent, trending down from a local positivity rate of 8.1 percent for the month of September.

The Illinois Department of Public Health reports that 53 vaccine doses were administered in Montgomery County during the previous seven days; 43.26 percent of county residents are fully vaccinated.

The local health department continues to offer all three vaccinations at their main office on Route 185 in Taylor Springs from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. each Monday and Thursday.  All three vaccines are available (Moderna, Pfizer and Johnson & Johnson).  Clinics are walk-in, but if curb-side service is needed, it is available.  Simply call the health department (217-532-2001) upon arrival and tell them you need a shot in your vehicle.
