The Litchfield High School softball team would lose a close 5-2 decision to Carlinville on Tuesday, April 16, despite 12 strikeouts from pitcher Emily Senjan.
Senjan, who struck out a dozen batters for the second straight game, would give up just two earned runs in her seven innings of work, with the Cavies drawing a walk and six hits.
Senjan also scored one of Litchfield's two runs, both of which came in the third inning when Lizzy Luttrell plated the LHS junior and Bri Jeffers to make it 2-0.
The lead would be short lived though as Carlinville tied the game in the fourth inning and took the lead for good with three runs in the sixth.
Both teams would have seven hits on the day, with Senjan and Luttrell each contributing two for the Panthers. Bri Jeffers, Trisha Seipp and Mallory Beechler had the other three hits for Litchfield, who fell to 2-13 with the loss.
Litchfield, who played Nokomis on Wednesday, will host Pana on April 18, and Vandalia on April 19.
