Shed Fire Destroys Lifetime Collection

A rural Coffeen man lost a lifetime in collectibles in a machine shed fire at his residence Wednesday afternoon, June 17.

The Coffeen Fire Department was dispatched to the residence of Robert Lentz on Old Cemetery Trail north of Coffeen for what at first was described as a tractor fire.  The department arrived to find a machine shed–packed with antique tractors and vehicles–fully engulfed in flames.

The fire began when an antique tractor back-fired after it had been started, and the owner was unable to get it out of the shed in time.

Coffeen requested mutual aid from the Hillsboro Fire Department and the Fillmore Fire Department.

The owner, well-known throughout the ag community, is not only a lifetime collector but also a retired farmer and retired Montgomery County Farm Bureau manager.
