Shirley Lea Zippay, 89, of Litchfield, died on Tuesday, July 16, 2019, at 2:20 a.m. at HSHS St. John's Hospital in Springfield.
A private family memorial service will be held at a later date. Plummer Funeral Home in Litchfield is in charge of arrangements.
Ms. Zippay was born Dec. 23, 1929, in Hillsboro, to Thomas F. and Helen Elizabeth (Weaver) Lewis.
During her career, she served as a clerk at Walmart in Litchfield for several years, worked at Olin Brass in Alton and had also taken care of elderly people in their homes.
A member of Cornerstone Ministeries in Benld, Ms. Zippay enjoyed having her family together for dinners and going out for breakfast on Saturday mornings.
She is survived by four sons, John (Linda) Davis and Kevin Degler, both of Litchfield, Mike (Belinda) Degler of Hillsboro and Joe (Adrien) Zippay of Raymond; two daughters, Christina Long of Litchfield and Mary (Kevin) Eller of Greenville; a brother, Ramon Mitchell of Canada; two sisters, Ramona Isom of California and Barbara Stassi of Alton; 14 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
Ms. Zippay was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Rebecca Little; three brothers, William "Bud" Mitchell, Guy Robert Woods and Alvie Woods; and a sister, Glendora Hemken.
