As of Monday night, police are still looking for the suspect who allegedly fired shots at a car leaving a house on Route 16 on the east side of Litchfield.
On Saturday, Oct. 10, at approximately 3 a.m., the Litchfield Police Department took a report of several gunshots being fired in the 3300 block of East Illinois Route 16. After a preliminary investigation, it was determined that a disturbance had occurred at 3342 East Illinois Route 16.
Officers were told that as two individuals attempted to leave, a subject exited the residence and allegedly fired several shots towards the departing vehicle, striking the car multiple times.
Police established surveillance on the residence and a search warrant was issued. Upon execution of the search warrant at approximately 10 a.m., police found that the occupants of the residence had left around the time of the reported disturbance, prior to police contact.
The search of the residence garnered evidence consistent with the report, police said. The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office, Macoupin County Sheriff’s Office, Hillsboro Police Department and Illinois State Police assisted in the execution of the search warrant. This investigation continues and criminal charges are pending.
