The Nokomis defense held Bunker Hill to just 20 percent from the field and nine points in the final three quarters as the Redskins defeated the Minutemen 37-20 on Friday, Feb. 7, in Bunker Hill.
Despite the 17 point victory, the game was close in the early going as it stood tied at 11-11 after eight minutes. Carter Sabol had all 11 points for Nokomis, while Andrew Scroggins finished with seven for Bunker Hill in the first quarter.
The Redskins would only manage one field goal and seven points in the second quarter, but held Bunker Hill at bay as well. The Minutemen would hit just one shot, a three from Coy Sellars, as they trailed 18-14 at halftime.
The low scoring trend continued in the second half, despite a pair of threes from Evan Herpstreith and Seth Johnson. Nokomis would net seven points in the third quarter, but shut down the Minutemen, with a Devon Ralston free throw their only point.
Up 25-15 after three, Nokomis continued to creep away with the victory, getting eight more points from Sabol and four from Seth Johnson to cap the 37-20 win.
Sabol would finish with 25 points and ten rebounds to lead all scorers and outscore the Minutemen by five. Seth Johnson added seven points, while Evan Herpstreith had three points, four assists and two steals. Kendall Knodle also added in two points for Nokomis, who were 11-for-34 from the field and 13-for-23 from the free-throw line.
The Redskins will be back at home on Tuesday, for a varsity only tilt against Pawnee, with tipoff at 6:30 p.m.
