HSHS St. Francis Foundation and its agriculture committee will host a Farm Family event on Wednesday, March 20, at Lincoln Land Community College (LLCC) in Litchfield.
The Farm Family event is free and open to all farmers and their families who reside in Macoupin and Montgomery counties.
Complimentary health screenings will be available from 7 to 9 a.m. The screenings include a comprehensive blood profile that screens for anemia, infection, diabetes, elevated cholesterol, thyroid, liver, prostate and kidney function. Attendees will also receive a skin cancer screening, an oral cancer screening, a hemoglobin A1C check, hearing, vision and blood pressure checks.
At 7:45 a.m. a hearty breakfast buffet, compliments of Litchfield Family Practice Center, will be served. At 8:15 a.m. David Pritchard, CPA, CMAA of Kerber, Eck and Braeckel, will discuss estate planning for farmers. Dan McCormack, vice president of philanthropy for Hospital Sisters Health System will explain how farmers can reap tax advantages while cultivating support for others. Matt Roberts of the Kernmantle Group will offer a comprehensive review of current trade negotiations, the Farm Bill, grain and livestock supply and demand, and what it all means for farmers as they make decisions.
The event will conclude with the presentation of the St. Isidore Friend of Agriculture award and drawings for door prizes.
"We hope this event will be beneficial to our area farmers by providing them with health screenings, timely information on agriculture issues and a nice meal," said Paula Endress, director of philanthropy for HSHS St. Francis Hospital. "We appreciate all the work of our agriculture committee members, Lou Ellen Anderson, Eric Helgen, Erik Hyam, Tony Marten, Jane Martin, Kevin Niemann and Ben Schwab in planning this event."
