The Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) announced the ninth COVID-19 coronavirus death on Montgomery County on Wednesday, Sept. 2.
According to IDPH, the victim was a male in his 90s and was one of 27 pandemic deaths announced on Wednesday along with 2,128 new cases.
As of Tuesday, IDPH reported 1,596 people in the state hospitalized with the virus. Of those, 347 were in intensive care and 142 were on ventilators. The state reported 1,492 new cases and 39 deaths on Tuesday, and 1,668 cases and seven deaths on Monday.
Locally, the Montgomery County Health Department reported six new cases so far this week as of Wednesday, a positivity rate of 0.8 percent for the first half of the week, and bringing the total number of confirmed cases in the county to 248.
The Illinois Department of Corrections reported that six of the 28 staff members at Graham Correctional Center in Hillsboro have recovered, as have two of the three inmates.
A free drive-through test site hosted by the Montgomery County Health Department will at the Litchfield Community Center from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Thursday and Friday, Sept. 3-4. Testing is open to anyone of any age with no appointments necessary and no insurance or out-of-pocket expense.
