Steven “Steve” L. Traylor, 62, of Hillsboro, died on Friday, May 15, 2020, at 8:05 a.m. at Hillsboro Area Hospital.

Graveside funeral services will be held Thursday, May 21, beginning at 11 a.m. at Waveland Cemetery in rural Hillsboro. Family and friends may meet at Bass Patton Dean Funeral Home in Hillsboro at 10:30 a.m. to proceed to the cemetery. Those who wish to attend are asked to practice social distancing as recommended by the CDC.

Mr. Traylor was born Sept. 30, 1957, in Hillsboro, to Darrell L. and Doris E. (Green) Traylor. He married Nancy Carroll on July 22, 1978, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Hillsboro, and she survives.

He graduated from Hillsboro High School with the class of 1975. He went on to work for the U.S. Postal Service as a rural letter carrier, then became the Illinois Union Representative for the rural letter carriers. Lastly, he became the National Union Representative for the Rural Letter Carriers, serving in Washington, D.C.

Mr. Traylor was a lifetime member of the Mt. Moriah Masonic Lodge #51 in Hillsboro, and member of Moose Lodge #1377 in Hillsboro and the Union for Illinois Rural Letter Carriers.

A lifelong Hillsboro resident, he loved spending time with his family and grandchildren, golfing, hunting, fishing, gardening, wood working and wine making.

In addition to his wife, Mr. Traylor is survived by his son, Sean (wife Brandi) Traylor of Hillsboro; daughter, Randi Traylor of Edwardsville; two grandchildren, Liam Traylor and Kolton Traylor; and siblings, Kathleen Beckom of Hillsboro and Elbert Traylor of Lincoln, NE.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
