Haelee Damm and Katelyn Payne both turned in season-best scoring totals for the Lincolnwood girls basketball team, but a strong first half by Tri-City lifted the Tornadoes to a 59-33 victory.
The Tornadoes, who co-op with Sangamon Valley for girls basketball, outscored Lincolnwood 13-3 in the first and 12-4 in the second to take a 25-7 halftime advantage.
Sarah Finley scored 11 points for Tri-City in the first half, while Grace Blair chipped in nine. Katelyn Payne had five of Lincolnwood’s seven first half points, with Avery Pope scoring the other two.
Finley and company would continue to score in the second half, with the 6’1” sophomore netting 11 more points to give her a game-high 22 by the final horn.
While they were outscored by two points in the third and six points in the fourth, Lincolnwood nearly doubled their scoring from the first half in each of the two second half quarters.
Haelee Damm would hit three threes in the game, all of which came in the second half, as she came up with a season-best nine to co-lead the Lancers with Katelyn Payne. All of Payne’s points came inside the arc, with four buckets and a free throw.
Only four players would score for Coach Justin Millburg, but all four would have solid totals. Cassie Krager added in eight points, with a three and five free throws, while Avery Pope knocked in seven points.
With the losses to Tri-City on Thursday and Hillsboro on Friday, Lincolnwood is now 1-7 on the season. They will hit the road on Monday, March 1, for a MSM Conference tilt against South County.
