Super Bowl Party? Better Get Tested

The Montgomery County Health Department does not want Super Bowl parties to turn into super spreaders, so is encouraging anyone who attended such gatherings to get tested for COVID-19.

The health department offers free coronavirus testing through Litchfield Family Practice Center from 1-3 p.m. Saturday and Sundays or until 40 tests have been completed.  Tests are administered on a first-come first-served basis.

Locally, cases and resulting deaths continue to decrease.  After averaging nine deaths a week for the first five weeks of 2021, the Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) reported one COVID-19 death in Montgomery County for the week of Feb. 7-13, and the local health department reported 73 new cases for that week for a positivity rate of 1.8 percent.

“This week we administered first dose vaccinations to some remaining individuals in Phase 1A, gave second doses to those in 1A and 1B, and held more clinics for individuals in Phase 1B,” the health department posted on Saturday, Feb. 13.  “All of our clinics are by appointment only.”

“How do we choose who gets an appointment? We maintain a list of all those who have called or emailed our office to request the vaccination. Appointments are given based on that list, beginning at the top of the list each time. If someone misses our call they still keep their spot on the list and will be called for the next clinic.”

As of Saturday, there were 4,800 individuals on the call list.

“At this time, we only call individuals from the list who meet the state’s current Phase 1A and 1B qualifications. Our weekly allocation from the State of Illinois for first dose vaccinations remained at 400 this week. Our plan is still to use each week’s shipment within a week of its receipt.”

When it’s time for a second dose, individuals can expect to receive a reminder call from the health department a day or two before their due date. Location and appointment time will be confirmed during that call.
