Susan Ann (Loffredo) Irvin, 77, died on Sunday, July 26, at home in Hillsboro.
A celebration of life service will be held on Saturday, Aug. 15, at Calvary Baptist Church in Hillsboro, beginning at noon. Hough and Dean Funeral Home in Hillsboro is assisting the family.
Mrs. Irvin was born Sept. 19, 1948, in Rhinelander, WI, to the late George James and Augusta Matilda (Mineau) Loffredo.
Her first job was as a hostess for the International House of Pancakes, because she was too short to be a waitress. She also worked for the Illinois Bell Telephone Company in 1966.
Mrs. Irvin was a huge part of her community with a love for her family, friends and community members. A dedicated member of Calvary Baptist Church in Hillsboro since the 1980s, Mrs. Irvin served a variety of positions, including the nursery, Sunday School, GAs, Bible study, kitchen crew and spent many years cooking for the kids at Vacation Bible School.
Being a homemaker for 25 years when she was married sparked a love for cake making, gardening and canning. She loved helping kids in the community, serving as a den mother for Cub Scouts and a leader for Brownies and Girl Scouts. She was a member of the Home Extension and loved to sew.
When she moved to town from the country, she worked outside her home. Her first job was at TCCU, and she loved working as a server at the Church Street Pub for her second job. She sold Partylite Candles, as well. Mrs. Irvin eventually settled in at National Bank, where she worked for 18 years before retirement.
After finding out that retirement wasn’t fulfilling, she applied to be a bus aide for the school district at the urging of her daughter. Before retiring in May 2026, she became the ultimate grandmother to every child she came in contact with on the bus.
Throughout her lifetime, Mrs. Irvin touched so many lives in Hillsboro and the surrounding communities. She had an undeniable love for her children and grandchildren and was always quick to step up and volunteer or lend a helping hand. She loved to make a meal or a dessert and share it with a family or her neighbors. Those who received a decorated cake, a homemade meal, cream cheese mints, a pumpkin roll, her famous deviled eggs or a canned good, were truly blessed.
Mrs. Irvin is survived by her brother, Stefano (wife Kelly) Loffredo of Smyrna, GA; her stepmother, Laura Loffredo of Portland, OR; her son, Shane Irvin of New Hampshire; her daughter, Shawnna (husband Wayne) Rovey of Hillsboro; grandchildren, Kayla (husband Chris) (Irvin) Zaporowski of Warsaw, NY, Joseph Campo of Hillsboro, McKenzie Rovey of Coffeen and Folsom and Fontane Gifford of Hillsboro; and great-grandchildren, Sullivan, Hadley and Ellie Mae Zaporowski and Rosalee Rovey.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a grandson, Anthony Irvin.
Memorials may be made to Calvary Baptist Church in Hillsboro.
