Abby Brockmeyer, a Lincolnwood graduate turned Southern Illinois University-Carbondale player, was instrumental in helping the SIU-Carbondale Salukis post a 67-51 victory over Valparaiso University, which was their first Missouri Valley Conference win.
Both in points scored and on the boards. In her 28 minutes of play, the starter finished with 17 points and 12 rebounds. She drained 5-of-9 from the field and 7-of-11 from the charity stripe.
SIUC was not as fortunate against Loyola University, losing a 51-49 decision. Brockmeyer was held to five points and five rebounds. SIUC is 9-4 overall and 1-1 in the MVC.
Sammi Matoush (Hillsboro) and the Washington University Bears took on their third nationally ranked opponent in a row, when they suited up against the University of Chicago, who is ranked 16th in the country among NCAA Division III teams. In the 78-64 loss, Matoush had nine points, two rebounds, two steals and two assists. The starting guard played 23 minutes. The Lady Bears are 7-5 overall and 0-1 in the University Athletic Association.
Carly Cameron (Hillsboro) helped the Illinois College Lady Blues split their first two games of the 2020 calendar year. In the 82-72 loss to Ripon College, Cameron had seven points, four rebounds and four steals in 16 minutes off the bench. She finished with four points, four steals, three assists and two steals in 16 minutes. IC is 7-4 overall and 3-1 in the Midwest Conference.
Lexi Lusk (Hillsboro) led the Blackburn College Beavers in goals scored this year with five. Lusk, a Blackburn freshman, played in 14 games and made 13 starts. Lusk, who had one assist, finished with 11 points.
Tess Saathoff (Hillsboro) and Aliese Greenwood (Hillsboro), both Blackburn players, also logged significant time for the varsity team. Saathoff, also a freshman, played in all 16 games and made 15 starts. She finished with seven points after scoring three goals and doling out one assist. Greenwood was a member of the defense and did not have any stats. The junior started in and played in 11 games. Blackburn is 4-12 overall and 2-7 in the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.
Alex Bishop (Litchfield) golfed nine rounds for Purdue University-Northwest this fall. He had total stroke count of 699 for an average of 77.66 strokes per 18 holes. He had a low round of 74 this fall. The PU-Northwest Pride will resume on March 5 at the Ferris State University Spring Invitational, which will be held in Wesley Chapel, Florida at the Saddlebrook Resort.
Jade Scroggins (Hillsboro) helped Hannibal-LaGrange win their first game of American Midwest Conference, when HLG slipped by Stephens College 58-57.
Scroggins had two points, three assists and two rebounds. In HLG's 68-65 loss to St. Louis College of Pharmacy, Scroggins had four points. Hannibal-LaGrange is 3-10 overall and 1-7 in the AMC.
