The College Report: IC Picks Up Second Victory

Posted

The Illinois College football team is back on the winning track.

IC, who lost a 25-20 decision to Nebraska Wesleyan University in the second week of the season, defeated Ripon College 28-25.

"We learned that we can only beat ourselves," said Austin Grabow, a Hillsboro grad and IC's starting center. "Our offense is so potent and I have to give credit to our defense as well. It is filled with a bunch of playmakers. We need to play four full quarters and not start slow. I know we will get there."

In the victory over Ripon, Grabow helped the IC offense post 238 yards of offense. They rushed for 140 yards and passed for 98 yards. They had 15 first downs and three touchdowns, two of which were rushing touchdowns and one was a passing touchdown.  Illinois College is 2-1.

"It feels good to get a win," said Grabow, who was named a NCAA Division III Preseason All-American. "The seniors set the tone for success. Personally, I want to continue to grind through a long season and keeping the offensive line a tight unit."

Alex Bishop (Litchfield) shot a 159 at the Lewis University-hosted Flyer Intercollegiate, which was held at Cog Hill Golf Course in Lemont. Bishop's 36-hole score was good for 45th. He helped Purdue University-Northwest take 14th with a 641. Indian Hills Community College took first with a 584.

Jade Taylor (Litchfield) assisted Greenville University's goal of their 5-0 win over Illinois College. The starting midfielder assisted the goal at 22:24. Greenville is 3-5-1 overall.

Lexi Lusk (Hillsboro) assisted Blackburn College's first goal in their 2-0 win over Rockford University. She assisted the goal, which was scored at the 2:55 mark of the first period. Tess Saathoff (Hillsboro) and Aliese Greenwood (Hillsboro) both started the contest. Saathoff started as a midfielder, while Greenwood was a defensive player. Blackburn is 3-5-1 overall and 1-0 in the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.

Zach Wieland (Nokomis) and Jordan Tuetken (Hillsboro), both Blackburn soccer players, both played in the Beavers' 4-2 win over Lincoln Christian University. Blackburn is 2-4-1.
