The College Report: Matoush Notches Double-Doubles

Posted

Sammi Matoush's basketball exploits at Hillsboro High School will go down as legendary.

Now, the Washington University freshman is working on becoming a legend there. While she is far from it, she has a good start. She reached another milestone this week in notching not one, but a pair of double-doubles in helping the Lady Bears to two more victories.

The Lady Bears, now 6-2, have won four games in a row. In the 67-52 victory over nationally ranked Claremont-Mudd-Scripps College, the former Hiltopper player drained 5-of-11 from the field and 6-of-6 from the charity stripe for 16 points. She also had one trey. The starting guard, who played 37 minutes, completed the double-double with 12 rebounds.

She only played 23 minutes against Fontbonne University, but it was enough time for the guard to score 16 points and grab 10 caroms. She drilled 4-of-10 from beyond the arc and a perfect 4-of-4 from the charity stripe.

The win over CMS occurred in the 19th Annual McWilliams Classic, which was held at Washington University.

Carly Cameron (Hillsboro) scored four points in Illinois College's final game before the Christmas break. In IC's 74-47 win over Cornell College, she had five rebounds, two assists and two steals in her 15 minutes of play. Illinois College has won four in a row and boast an overall record of 6-2. They are 2-0 in the Midwest Conference.

Donavan Moore, a former Hillsboro resident, has played in four games, averaging 4.0 minutes per game, for the University of Toledo Rockets. He has scored 11 points by hitting 5-of-6 from the field and 1-of-2 from the free throw line in those four games. He also has five rebounds and two assists. The Rockets are 8-2 through the first 10 games.

Abby Brockmeyer (Lincolnwood) scored two points as her college team, Southern Illinois University-Carbondale, downed Murray State University 76-66. In her 27 minutes of play, the starter also had a team-leading eight rebounds and two blocked shots. SIU-Carbondale has won four of their last five games. They are 6-3 overall.
