The College Report: No Sophomore Slump For Jacob

Kendra Jacob, a Hillsboro graduate, is only a sophomore at Hannibal-LaGrange University. 

But, if her second season on the team is any indication, Jacob is quickly developing into a leader for her university softball team. Jacob, who started and played in 45 games, finished her season with a team-high .360 batting average. In 136 trips to the plate, the outfielder had a team-leading 49 hits. Of her hits, nine were doubles and two were homers. She also had 24 RBIs, 19 runs scored, seven walks and five stolen bases. She had an on-base percentage of .393 and a slugging percentage of .471. 

Hannibal-LaGrange is 20-26 overall and 10-14 in the American Midwest Conference. 

Reid Detmers (Chatham-Glenwood) worked 5 1/3 innings for the University of Louisville in their 15-7 win over University of Virginia. Detmers, who improved to 10-2 with the victory, allowed six earned runs on seven hits. He fanned seven and walked one. Louisville, now ranked seventh in the country, is 40-12 overall and 19-8 in the Atlantic Coast Conference. 

Lexi Law (Litchfield) finished her softball season at Lindenwood University-Belleville recently. The junior outfielder, who played in 48 games and made 35 starts, had a .317 batting average. In 82 trips to the plate, Law had 26 hits (three doubles, one homer). The Lynx softball player also had 23 runs scored, 15 stolen bases, eight RBIs and five walks. Law helped LU-Belleville post a record of 41-16 overall. They were 17-7 in the American Midwest Conference. 

Kaylee Hefley (Hillsboro) worked the final one and a third innings for Lewis and Clark Community College in their 10-2 loss to St. Louis Community College in the National Junior Collegiate Athletic Association Division II Regionals. She allowed two hits and fanned one hitter. Hefley did not get the decision. Lewis and Clark finished 25-28 overall and 8-16 in the Mid-West Athletic Conference.
