Theodore G. Schrage, 82, of Pocahontas, died Friday, May 17, 2019, at his residence.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, May 22, from 4 to 8 p.m. at Spengel-Boulanger Funeral Home  in Highland. 

An additional visitation will be held Thursday, May 23, from 8 to 9:30 a.m. at the funeral home.  A Funeral Mass will follow at 10 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Pierron with Father Paul J. Bonk officiating. Interment will be held at Calvary Cemetery in Pierron.

Mr. Schrage was born Feb. 12, 1937, in St. Rose, the son of Theodore and Gertrude (Kampwerth) Schrage. He married Marie I. Drake on Oct. 4, 1960, at St. Dominic Catholic Church in Breese, and she survives.

He attended St. Rose School. He helped with the family farm, then joined the U.S. Air Force for three years, where he served in the South Pacific. He was discharged in 1960.

After service, he moved to Pocahontas and farmed in the Jamestown area. He operated a dairy farm until the 1980s, and continued to operate livestock and grain. He farmed until this past year.

Off the farm, he worked at Pierron Elevator, laborer for Local #100 on the Poplar Street Bridge, Metro Ag and Arrow Group in Breese.

A member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Pierron, he was also a member of VFW Post #5694 in Highland, American Legion Post #1104 in Pocahontas and Knights of Columbus Council #1580 in Highland. He was a member of NFO for two years and was a retired captain of the Highland-Pierron Fire Department.

He enjoyed playing cards, especially Euchre, raccoon and deer hunting, cutting firewood and taking his wife out to eat. He was a good husband, father and a true role model for his family. He was very proud of his farm and it was his life.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his twin daughters, Elayne G. (Russell) Cripe of Greenville and Evelyn M. (Stephen) Knebel of Pierron; grandchildren, Vanessa L. Knebel (significant other Chris Marr) of Hillsboro, MO, Amanda L. (Matthew) Winka of Ashley, Travis J. (Amy) Knebel of Trenton, Michael R. Cripe (fiancee Dodie Langham) of Greenville and Renee A. (Kaleb) Paul of Sorento; great-grandchildren, Alexys N. Spratt and Mallory F. Winka, both of Ashley, Sawyer T. Paul of Sorento, baby Winka, due in September, and Kimber A. Paul of Sorento; and sisters-in-law, Judy Schrage of Breese, Glenna Drake of Pocahontas, Edith Korte and May (Jimmie) Jacober-Kinnard, both of Highland.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sons, Randall D. "Randy" Schrage and Ryan N. Schrage; brothers, Leander V. "Lee" (Deloris) Schrage; and Alexander E. "Alex" Schrage; sisters, Bernice A. (George) Wellen and Leora H. (John) Varel; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Verba H. and Irene (Gross) Drake; sister-in-law, Doris Dannaman; and brothers-in-law, John Drake, Robert Korte and Donald J. Jacober.

Memorials may be made as Masses or to the family.
