Thomas Bliss Kenney, 73, of Coffeen, formerly of Hillsboro, died at 1:06 a.m. on Sunday, Oct. 10, 2021. He took his last breath with his loving wife of 42 years and his daughter by his side at HSHS St. John’s hospital in Springfield, after a long and tiresome fight with kidney disease/dialysis.

The family will accept visitors from 10 a.m. until the service time, on Saturday, Oct. 23, at Toberman-Dean funeral home in Coffeen. Funeral services will begin at 11 a.m.  at the funeral home, with Kevin Simburger officiating. Toberman-Dean Funeral Home of Coffeen is assisting the family with arrangements.

Mr. Kenney was born on July 31, 1948, in Hillsboro, to James and Patty (Bliss) Kenney. He went to Hillsboro High School but later received his GED and went on to enlist in the United States Air Force, being an MP. After being honorably discharged on Nov. 26, 1971, he became disabled, but loved wood working, welding and working with leather.

He married Linda Hamilton at his mom’s beautiful home on Hickory Street in Hillsboro on Aug. 11,1979. They had one daughter, Patricia (Toby) Beard, that he loved very much, and always had to tell her how thankful he was for her and her mother. Mr. Kenney loved being a husband, a dad and a grandpa. He loved spending time with family and friends and if he couldn’t spend time with them he loved being on the phone with them, living vicariously through their lives.

Mr. Kenney is survived by his loving wife; daughter; grandchildren, Tyler Beard and Deven Beard, both of Coffeen; mother-in-law, Doris Hamilton of Taylor Springs; brothers, Robert “Bobby” Kenney and James “Jimmy” (Charlene) Kenney, both of Hillsboro; niece, Linda (Kenney) Seaborne; nephews, Daniel and Clint Kenney; three great-nieces; four great-nephews; one great-great-nephew; and many cousins and dear friends.
