Timberwolves Knock Off Nokomis By Two

A late surge lifted an up-and-coming Okaw Valley squad to a win over Nokomis on Tuesday, Dec. 3, by a 65-63 final score.

The Timberwolves would use a spot-on performance from Eli Hagerman from three-point range and some sharp play by the aptly named Cameron Sharp to take an 18-13 lead after one quarter and a 34-28 lead at the break. Hagerman would hit four threes in the first half, while Sharp added in 11 points of his own.

Nokomis wasn't going anywhere though, as they outscored the Timberwolves 21-11 in the third quarter to take a 49-45 lead. Carter Sabol, who had 12 points in the first half, added six points in the third quarter, while Alex Tosetti doubled his five first half points, plus one, to finish with 11 points in the first three quarters.

The Redskins actually led by as many nine, 48-39, thanks to back-to-back baskets by Evan Herpstreith and Sabol, but two straight threes by Hagerman kept Nokomis from running away with the contest.

Sabol and Tosetti would do what they could to pull out the win in hostile territory in the final quarter, with Tosetti hitting two threes and a pair of free throws and Sabol knocking down six points, but Sharp took over down the stretch, hitting two threes of his own to up his game-high total to 26 points.

The Timberwolves would also get six points from Cole Nichols in the quarter as they earned the two point victory when a last second three by the Redskins just missed.

Sabol would finish with 24 points, nine rebounds and five assists, while Tosetti backed him with 19 points. Evan Herpstreith added seven points and four assists, followed by Kendall Knodle with six, Seth Johnson with five and Nick Mascher with two.

Sharp was complimented by Hagerman, who had 20 points for the Timberwolves, who improved to 2-2.

Now 1-4 on the season, Nokomis will have a few days to recover before taking on Alton Marquette in a key Prairie State Conference road game.
