Twenty-five Hillsboro High boys began preparation for their 2019/2020 basketball season on Monday, Nov. 11; the public's first chance to see them in action will come at the squad's annual Black and Orange scrimmage this Friday, November 22. The Hillsboro Sports Association youth program will scrimmage before the high school team; that action begins at 5 p.m. Admission for the evening is $4 for adults, $3 for students. Those proceeds help pay for bus transportation to the away games.
The first between-schools action will be Tuesday, Nov. 26, in Shelbyville against the Rams. Junior varsity tip is at 6 p.m.
Then they travel to Carlyle for the Kaskaskian Classic Boys Basketball Tournament which begins on Saturday, Nov. 30. Hillsboro drew Okawville for the 6 p.m. game that night; Pinckneyville plays Greenville in the 3 p.m. slot followed by Woodlawn versus the host Carlyle Indians at 4:30. Freeburg plays Flora after the Topper game.
Participants in the program include seniors Brock Bellaver, Ethan Blankenship, Joe Mattson, Dylan McCammack, Nic Ondrey, and Ben Walker; juniors Jude Bertolino, Vito Corsere, Brady Meier, and Jace Tuetken; sophomores Bryce Connor, Tim Downen, Ethan Lentz, Ian Malloy, Gavin Matoush, Dillan Smail, and Drake Vogel; and freshmen Levi Arkebauer, Kyle Butler, Will Christian, Dillon Devlin, Zane Duff, Blaze Heltton, Alex McDowell, and Addison Pollard.
