The Hillsboro boys tennis team was in Greenville on Friday, May 10, for the South Central Conference Tournament, held in Greenville.
In doubles play, the Toppers were seeded second with the team of Wilson Hamby and Dane Huber and fourth with the team of Chance Murray and Trevor Hartman.
Both teams would make it to the semifinals as Murray and Hartman defeated Garret Arview and Clayton Slayden of Roxana 6-1, 6-1 and Hamby and Huber drew a bye.
Both semifinals would be close, but Hillsboro would come out just short in both matches against Greenville's top two teams. Murray and Hartman would fall 7-5, 6-4 to the top seeded team of Steven Grove and Tim Kester, while Hamby and Huber lost 8-6, 6-4 to the team of Jeremy Oakley and Spenser Earth.
Grove and Kester would go on to win the doubles tournament over their teammates.
In singles play, Hillsboro's Joe Mattson was the second seed, while Brayden Bolyard was the fourth seed. Both earned byes in the first round, but like their doubles counterparts, fell to Comets in the semifinals.
Bolyard would fall to Matt Watterson, the top seed in the bracket, by a 6-4, 6-3 decision, while Mattson fell to Seth Owens 6-1, 6-1. Owens would go on to pull the upset over his teammate in the championship match to take the title.
