The NokomisLady Redskins hosted the Hillsboro Lady Toppers on Monday night, Sept. 30. It was obvious that the Skins were going to have to bring their A-game to battle the Toppers.
Hillsboro came out swinging, but the Lady Redskins answered with some stellar defense. In the first set, there were multiple long rallies of play that made for an exciting game.
Unfortunately, serve receive got the best of Nokomis and the Toppers took set one, 25-15.
The Montgomery County rivals squared off again in set two. Nokomis once again competed at a high level against a bigger Topper squad, but again came up short and took the loss, 25-21
Despite the loss, Redskin fans left their home court with some positives, as they move closer to post season play.
In between the two sets, both teams made donations to INAD research from T-shirt sponsorships for the Montgomery County Invitational in honor of eight-year-old Grace Herschelman of Hillsboro, who is battling the rare disease.
Nokomis, who co-hosted this year's tournament with Lincolnwood, raised more than $3,500 for INAD research, while Hillsboro raised more than $900, with more fundraisers planned for their game on Monday, Sept. 7, against Lincolnwood.
