Toppers Solid, Laack Spectacular At Pana

Posted

The Hillsboro boys golf team put up a valiant effort in their quad match at Oak Terrace in Pana on Thursday, Sept. 3, but a stellar performance from Vandalia kept the Toppers from sweeping the inter-conference tilt.

Vandalia’s Chase Laack shot a 3-under-par 36 on the day to lead the Vandals to a 155 as a team. Hillsboro would take second with a 167, while Pana (190) and Greenville (199) rounded out the scoring.

While they didn’t have a player in the 30s (Vandalia’s Riley Ruckman and Pana’s Austin Karbach also shot 38 and 36 respectively), the Toppers had four solid scoring rounds in the match.

Preston Lyerla and Drake Vogel each shot 41s on the day to lead a tightly packed Hillsboro group. Dominic Haggard added in a 42, while Dillon Smail finished with a 43, giving Hillsboro three rounds in the top eight and four in the top 12.

Tad Daniels and Devin Speiser would also play for the Toppers, shooting a 47 and a 49 respectively.

The Hillsboro boys will meet up with Greenville again on Sept. 8, at Indian Springs Golf Course near Coffeen, followed by a home match on Sept. 10, against PORTA and Auburn.
