The Lincolnwood High School softball team would be at home to start the week as they welcomed a pair of Tornadoes in Taylorville and Tri-City to Kiwanis Field in Raymond on April 15 and April 16.
In Monday's game against the Lady Tornadoes, Taylorville got ahead early and never looked back as they handed the Lancers an 11-3 loss.
Nine of Taylorville's 11 runs would come in the first three innings as the Tornadoes scored four in the first, three in the second and two in the third to take a commanding lead. Lincolnwood would hold the visitors scoreless in the fourth, fifth and sixth, but Taylorville would get two late insurance runs in the seventh.
The Lancers would get one run in the first and two runs in the sixth for all of their offensive production in their 12th game of the season.
In the first, Sidney Glick earned a walk to lead off the game and moved to second on a wild pitch. She would move to third on a fielder's choice and scored on a ground out by Sadie Slightom.
Glick would also start off the scoring in the sixth for the Lady Lancers, earning another walk as she reached base three times on Tuesday, with a single in her other at-bat.
After stealing second, Glick would move to third on a single by Cassie Krager, who also moved up a base on a steal. Brittney Slightom would drive in Glick with the second run of the inning and two batters later, Krager scored on a sacrifice fly to center field by Maggie McClelland.
The 9-3 score would be as close as Lincolnwood would get though, as Taylorville plated two runs in the seventh, then set the Lady Lancers down in order in the bottom half of the inning.
Lincolnwood's four hits would come from the top four spots in the order as Glick, Krager and the Slightom sisters all had singles.
Sydney Herman would start the game for Lincolnwood, yielding nine runs (five earned) on four hits and five walks with three strikeouts in two and a third innings. Sadie Slightom would finish off the final four and two-thirds innings, allowing two runs on five hits with a strikeout and two walks.
Lincolnwood vs. Tri-City
The Lady Lancers' MSM Conference game against Tri-City would be much closer than Monday's affair as Lincolnwood fell to the Tornadoes by a narrow 4-1.
Lincolnwood reduced their errors from eight against Taylorville to two against Tri-City. Lancer starter Sydney Herman would not give up a hit until the third inning, when Ashlyn Morlock singled to drive in the first run of the game.
Tri-City would score two more runs in the fourth after a pair of walks and a double, but Lincolnwood got one of those runs back in the bottom half of the inning. Sadie Slightom would earn a one-out walk to start the rally and would score two batters later on a single by Marisa Webb.
That would be all the Lancers could manage against the duo of Kaitlynn Spain and Daleny Chumbley, though, as the pair struck out six and did not allow a hit in the final three innings.
Herman would only give up two hits in the final three innings, but Tri-City would draw four walks, one of which came around to score an insurance run in the top of the seventh.
Despite only being outhit 4-3 in the game, the Lancers would fall to a team of Tornadoes for the second day to move their record to 3-10 on the season.
In addition to Webb's RBI single in the fourth, Sidney Glick and Sadie Slightom also had hits for the Lancers.
The orange and black will have another chance against Tri-City on April 18, on the Tornadoes' home field, followed by this year's Lincolnwood Invitational Tournament, which will be held on Saturday, April 20, in Raymond. The Lancers will take on Pana at 10 a.m., followed by a game against Vandalia at 1:30 p.m. The Panthers and Vandals will play in between those two contests.
