Two people were killed in a head-on accident that involved five vehicles on Interstate 55 just north of Farmersville early Sunday, June 16.
Dannean Royston, 36, of St. Louis, MO, and Cheryl True, 54, of Maryville, were both pronounced dead at the scene by Montgomery County Coroner Randy Leetham.
According to Illinois State Police, Royston was driving a 2012 Chevrolet Cruze northbound in the southbound I-55 lanes when his vehicle collided head-on with a southbound 2018 Nissan Rogue driven by True at 12:32 a.m. Sunday.
The impact spun True's vehicle into a 2016 Freightliner semi driven by Joseph Wright, 71, of Edwardsville, and a 2019 Kia Sorento, driven by Corey Sherman, 31, of St. Ann, MO.
True's vehicle came to a stop in the middle of the southbound lanes where it was then hit by a 2012 Megabus, driven by Kermit Wilmington, 60, of Chicago, and loaded with 54 passengers. Wilmington was transported to the hospital with what state police called serious injuries, and five passengers on the bus were transported with minor injuries.
The Illinois State Police traffic crash reconstruction unit is continuing the investigation.
