Udell Lee Volentine, 85, of Litchfield, died on Wednesday, Feb. 12, 2020, at 5:05 a.m. at HSHS St. John’s Hospital in Springfield.

Visitation will be held Saturday, Feb. 15, from 3 to 6 p.m. at Plummer Funeral Home in Litchfield. Funeral services will be conducted Sunday, Feb. 16, beginning at 2 p.m. at Zion Lutheran Church in Litchfield with the Rev. Fred Kraemer of Zion Lutheran Church officiating. Burial will follow in Elm Lawn Cemetery in Litchfield.

Mr. Volentine was born July 8, 1934, in New Douglas, to Dale Ulis and Irene Minnie Marie (Schweppe) Volentine. He married Lois Anne Ernst on July 10, 1955, at Zion Lutheran Church in Litchfield, and she survives.

He graduated from Litchfield High School with the class of 1954. During his career, he was employed as a bus driver for the Litchfield School District for several years and as a petroleum distributor at FS. He also operated Volentine Oil Co., supplying Sunoco Oil products.

Mr. Volentine worked as a farm hand and grain hauler for Justison Farms and also worked in the automotive department at Rural King. In retirement, he volunteered his time at the Litchfield Food Pantry. 

He was an active member of Zion Lutheran Church in Litchfield, where he served as Sunday School superintendent for 15 years and elder for three terms. He also served as president of the men’s club and the PTL organization of Lutheran School, and was an usher captain during performances of “The Promise” for 25 years.

Mr. Volentine enjoyed attending truck and tractor pulls to watch his grandson and granddaughter participate.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Don (Pam) Volentine and Brian (Jan) Volentine, both of Litchfield; one daughter, Lana (David L.) Justison of Hillsboro; one brother, Marvin (Linda) Volentine of Shipman; sister-in-law, Shirley Volentine of Sorento; nine grandchildren, Kim (Chuck) Lucykow, Aaron Volentine, Dale Volentine, Josh (Kelly) Volentine, April (Jeff) Budd, Keri (Jason) Hayes, David (Kate) Justison, Patricia (Jon) Fuchs and Jenny (Ben) Barron; 11 great-grandchildren, Lauren Lucykow, Paige Lucykow, Jon Volentine, Jake Volentine, Connor Budd, Landon Budd, Alana Hayes, Jackson Hayes, Annabel Justison, Michael Justison and Scarlett Barron.

Mr. Volentine was preceded in death by his parents; and one brother, Delmar Volentine.
