Valeria Joan Reiss, 87, of The Villages, FL, formerly of Decatur, died on Wednesday, Dec. 23, 2020, at 9:25 p.m.
A memorial service will be held at a later date in Ramsey. Miller Funeral Home in Ramsey is assisting the family.
Mrs. Reiss was born Oct. 25, 1933, in Bingham, to Carl and Edith (Lloyd) Craig. She married James Reiss, and he preceded her in death.
She was a career postal employee for 20 years, having served as clerk at the Blue Mound Post Office for many years, and later as officer in charge of several Central Illinois post offices. She last served as postmaster at Assumption before retiring.
After retirement, Mrs. Reiss and her husband had great joy in owning and operating Ramsey Creek Antique Mall.
She was a member of Blue Mound Christian Church, Ramsey Christian Church and Antioch Christian Church in Mt. Zion. She was also a member of the National Association of Postmasters of the U.S., Order of the Eastern Star of Illinois and Moweaqua Rotary Club.
Mrs. Reiss volunteered her time at St. Mary’s Hospital. She enjoyed playing cards and games, dancing, listening to music, traveling and spending time with longtime friend Howard Stombaugh of Decatur. She treasured the time she spent with her family and friends.
She is survived by her son, Rodney (Debbie) Damery of Simpsonville, SC; daughter, Renee (Ed) Bailey of The Villages, FL; stepsons, Mike (Barb) Reiss, Tim (Vicki) Reiss, Danny Reiss and Pat (Gina) Reiss, all of Ramsey; stepdaughter, Diane (Del) Eastman of Hamilton, OH; five grandchildren, Matt (Kate) Bailey, Melissa (Tim) McCall, Cassie (Chris) Damery, Zachary Damery and Logan (Allison) Damery; eight stepgrandchildren, Kaci Reiss, Kyle (Megan) Reiss, Megan Reiss, Zachary Reiss, Peyton Reiss, Brady Reiss, Charlie Reiss and Max Reiss; four great-grandchildren, Payton Damery, Avery and Tyler McCall and Nora Bailey; and three stepgreat-grandchildren, Kale, Meyer and Averey Reiss.
In addition to her husband, Mrs. Reiss was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Virginia Toberman and Velma Rose Fesser; brother, Val Craig; grandson, Andy Damery; and former husband, Carroll Damery.
