Vera L. Clark, 99

Vera Loretta Clark, 99, of Litchfield, died at 1:12 a.m. Friday, May 15, 2020, in Heritage Health Therapy & Senior Care in Litchfield. 

She was born on Nov. 27, 1920, in Alton, a daughter of Melvin Otto and Elizabeth (Ledder) DeSart. She was a World War II veteran of the Women’s Army Corp. She married Bernard Clark on Feb. 19, 1950, and he preceded her in death on April 28, 1984.

Mrs. Clark worked as a waitress for 22 years at The Gardens until it closed. She also worked at Skinny’s Café in Litchfield and Anderson’s Egg Plant. She was a member of Mt. Zion Lutheran Church of Litchfield, American Legion Ladies Auxiliary Post #436 in Litchfield, and Home Extension. Her children said she was a Gold Star mother.

She is survived by a son, John (Connie) Clark of Greenville; a daughter, Linda Hammel of Highland; five grandchildren, Joei (Bruce) Sanford of Hillsboro, Jacqui Anderson of Hillsboro, Jamie (Jason) Dickenson of Greenville, Craig (Laura) Hammel of Mississippi, and Brooke (Brad) Lam of Carbondale; nine great-grandchildren, Jesse and Tristan Sanford, Milla and Ian Anderson, Gabe and Joely Dickenson, Brittany Hammel, Lauren Hammel, and Zachary Brown.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a step son, Glen Maynard Clark; three brothers, Evert DeSart, Nyle DeSart, Melvin DeSart; three sisters, Elizabeth DeSart, Nedra Kosowski, Betty Gooch; and a great-grandson, Arin Sanford.

Private Family Services will be held.  Memorials may made to Mt. Zion Lutheran Church in Litchfield.
