Verda L. Boehler, 91, of Springfield, died on Saturday, July 6, 2019, at 4:35 a.m. at Reflections Memory Care in Chatham.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, July 10, from 9:30 to 11 a.m. at St. Raymond Catholic Church in Raymond. Funeral Mass will follow, beginning at 11 a.m. at the church with the Rev. Albert Allen officiating. Burial will take place in St. Raymond Cemetery in Raymond.

Mrs. Boehler was born March 12, 1928, in Witt Township, to Otto A. and Senia (Mindrup) Hoehn. She married Raymond F. Boehler on July 11, 1979, and he preceded her in death on Sept. 29, 2014.

She graduated from Nokomis High School with the class of 1946, Eastern Illinois University in 1950 with a bachelor's degree and the University of Illinois in 1957 with a master's degree.

Formerly of Raymond, Mrs. Boehler was a resident of Springfield since 1992. She served as high school librarian for 28 years, 21 of those years at J. Sterling Morton High School East in Cicero. Later in life, she became a librarian at Doyle Memorial Reading Center in Raymond, where she worked for seven years.

She attended St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church in Chatham, and was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma, Springfield Audubon Society, Illinois Audubon Society and the Illinois Retired Teachers Association. She also volunteeered at Doctors Hospital and Lincoln Memorial Gardens.

Mrs. Boehler enjoyed traveling to many countries, as well as all 50 states; bird watching; reading and square dancing.

She is survived by two sons, Jim (Judy) Boehler of Aviston and Keith Boehler of Cypress, TX; a daughter, Kathy (Tom) Brown of Harvel; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and several cousins.

In addition to her husband, Mrs. Boehler was preceded in death by her parents.
