Vernon Henry Jacob, 86, of Litchfield, died at 7:40 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 13, 2020, at Montgomery Place.

Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Nov. 19, with  Brother Ed Fogle officiating.  Burial will be at Elm Lawn Cemetery in Litchfield.  Private family visitation will be held. The family is planning to have a celebration of life gathering in the Spring/Summer of 2021. Plummer Funeral Services is assisting the family with arrangements.

Mr. Jacob was born in Cahokia Township, in Macoupin County, a son of Henry Richard and Crescentia L. (Boehm) Jacob, Jr. He married Ruth Lorraine Billiter on March 9, 1957, at Union Avenue Christian Church in Litchfield, she preceded him in death on Feb. 9, 1999. He later married Barbara Marie McAnarney on March 1, 2001, in Naples, she preceded him in death on Nov. 26, 2011.

Mr. Jacob was a veteran of the United States Army, serving during peacetime. He was a coal miner for 42 years at Monterey Coal Company in Carlinville,  until his retirement in 1996. Mr. Jacob was a member of Union Avenue Christian Church in Litchfield and the United Mine Workers of America, Local #228/1613. In his spare time, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, boating and sitting around a campfire. He especially enjoyed attending his grandchildren’s sporting events.

Mr. Jacob is survived by his children, David (Shari) Jacob of Springfield, Diane (John) Renken of Springfield and Steven (Diane) Jacob of Hillsboro; step-son, James Fulton; step-daughters, Pam (Jason) Waldeck of Chatham and Sarah (Tom) Freels of Dayton, OH; sisters, Vida Marit and Viva Wolfe, both of Litchfield; 15 grandchildren, Ashley, Danielle and David Jacob, Alex, Gabrielle and Kelsey Gee, Dylan and Savannah Renken, Noah and Kendra Jacob, Karly Fulton, Caleb Fuchs, Riley Fulton, Taylor Fuchs and Jason Waldeck; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Ruth; second wife, Barbara; brother, Virgil Jacob; sisters, Velva Jacob and Velma Holman.
