Vernon Leroy Durbin, 70, of Hillsboro, died on Monday, Jan. 22, 2024 at 4:06 p.m., at his residence.
Private inurment will be held at a later date at Oak Grove Mausoleum in Oak Grove Cemetery in Hillsboro. Bass Patton Dean Funeral Home of Hillsboro is assisting with arrangements.
Mr. Durbin was born on Aug. 8, 1953, in Pana, to the late Arthur and Julia (Longworth) Durbin. He married Vicki Frigo on Aug. 9, 1986, at United Methodist Church in Hillsboro, and she survives.
Mr. Durbin graduated from Hillsboro High School with the class of 1972. Throughout his life, he lived in Nokomis, Coffeen and Hillsboro. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, guns, hanging out with friends, taking long drives and his beloved dog, Benji.
Mr. Durbin worked for Hillsboro Glass in maintenance until they closed; then he became a engineer and dispatch for Hillsboro Fire Department. He also served his community with Hillsboro Ambulance Service.
Mr. Durbin was a member of the Hillsboro Moose and the Hillsboro Volunteer Fire Department.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Durbin is survived by his stepdaughter, Dana (Jeff) Loepker of Breese; grandchildren, Zackary, Colin and Eric Loepker; and siblings, Kenny Durbin, Mike Durbin, Raymond Durbin, Louis “Butch” Durbin, Virginia Treadway and Margie Traylor, and brother in law Rick Frigo.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Tom Durbin and a sister, Martha Spinner.
