The Lincolnwood girls golf team put up a solid round at Timber Lakes Golf Course in Staunton on Tuesday, Sept. 15, but South County was just a little bit better as they edged their MSM Conference rivals 203 to 205.
The Lady Lancers would shoot the same or better in three of the four scoring rounds, but a 9-over-par 45 from medalist Callie Hughes helped push the Vipers over the top.
Still, Lincolnwood’s 205 was their second lowest round of the year and showed that the Lancers are improving as a team. Just 10 strokes separated Lincolnwood’s top six, with a JV round by Kaylee Gerlach only 14 strokes behind Lincolnwood’s best score.
That score belonged to Gerlach’s sister, Jordyn Gerlach, who led her team for the third straight match. Gerlach had one par on the back nine in Staunton, but was within one or two strokes of par on the other eight holes.
Both Dorie Krager and Micah Gehlbach would be closely behind Gerlach with a pair of 51s. Krager had back-to-back pars on number 12 and number 13, while Gehlbach had a par on the par-5 18th hole.
Shelby Hattenbach added in a 55 for the fourth scoring round, with Jhia Walker (56) and Marisa Webb (58) rounding out the lineup.
Lincolnwood will be at Oak Terrace Golf Club on Thursday, Sept. 17, to face off against Pana and Taylorville.
