Virginia Frances Birdsell, 91, of Jerseyville, formerly of Mt. Olive, died on Monday, Dec. 14, 2020, at 6:45 a.m. at Willow Rose Rehabilitation and Health Care Center in Jerseyville.

Private family graveside services will be conducted on Friday, Dec. 18, beginning at 1:30 p.m. at Wood-Davis Cemetery in Bunker Hill. No visitation will be held. Plummer Funeral Home in Litchfield is assisting the family.

Mrs. Birdsell was born March 14, 1929, in Woodburn, to Ray Clement and Ida Ellis (Wood) Hill. She married Charles Lee Byrne in 1951, and they later divorced. She then married Marvin Delmar Birdsell on Oct. 16, 1954, at the Methodist Church Parsonage in Mt. Olive, and he preceded her in death on July 11, 2004.

She graduated from Mt. Olive High School with the class of 1947. During her career, she worked as a realtor and secretary for M.A.M. Real Estate in Litchfield, and later as a telephone operator for IL Central Telephone Co. in Mt. Olive and Lincoln, as well as IL Consolidated Telephone Co. in Litchfield.

Mrs. Birdsell was a member of Living Stones Fellowship in Litchfield. She was also a life member of National Home Gardening Club and Hermon Chapter No. 95 Order of the Eastern Star (OES).

She is survived by her two sons, Mark (Patricia) Birdsell of Jerseyville and James (Jeanne) Birdsell of Edwardsville; sister, Ida “Shirley” Morgan of Kansas City, MO; granddaughter, Stevie (Joshua) McAdams of Jerseyville; stepgrandson, Bradley (Jessica) Kimble of Jerseyville; five great-grandchildren, Kendrin, Cearin, Aylin, Ebrin and Adrin McAdams; and three stepgreat-grandchildren, Anthony, Micah and Elijah Kimble.

In addition to her husband, Mrs. Birdsell was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Ray Hill and Reginold Wood; and four sisters, Irma Payne, Hazel Rull, Norma Walker and Delores Bennett.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Litchfield Food Pantry.
