Walter E. Turney, Jr., 96, of Upper Sandusky, OH, died on Monday, Sept. 26, 2022, at The Fairhaven Community in Upper Sandusky, OH.

Visitation will be held Thursday, Sept. 29, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Bringman Clark Funeral Home in Upper Sandusky, OH. Funeral services will follow, beginning at 12 p.m. at the funeral home with Pastor Doug Kendrick officiating. Interment will be held at Oak Hill Cemetery in Upper Sandusky, OH, with military rites conducted by the Upper Sandusky Veterans Color Guard.

Mr. Turney was born Nov. 11, 1925, in Harpster, OH, to Walter and Frances (Smith) Turney, Sr. He married Martha Austin in 1950, and she preceded him in death in 1979.

He graduated from Harpster High School with the class of 1943 and served his country in the U.S. Navy during World War II.

Mr. Turney was a farmer and carpenter, owning and operating Turney Construction. He later worked at the former Karg Supply before retiring.

He was a member of Harpster United Methodist Church, where he had served as a Sunday School teacher. He served as councilman, clerk, treasurer and mayor of Harpster. He was also a volunteer fireman and treasurer for the Pitt Township Fire Department.

Mr. Turney enjoyed softball, bowling, reading, crossword puzzles and early in his life, hunting and traveling.

He is survived by his children, Keith (Cheryl Sims) Turney of Upper Sandusky, OH, and Michelle (Joe) Holtschulte of Litchfield; grandchildren, Erica and Brice Turney, Angela Jones, Justin Rall, Jordan, Alex and Nick Holtschulte; 16 great-grandchildren; and sister, Helen Smalley of Upper Sandusky, OH.

In addition to his wife, Mr. Turney was preceded in death by his daughter and son-in-law, Christine and Joseph Rall; brother, Robert Turney; sisters, Shirley McClain and Louise Walters; and special companion, Mary Gregory.
