Wanda June Compton, 89, of Hillsboro, died on Wednesday, Aug. 26, 2020, at 2 p.m. at her daughter’s residence in Hillsboro.

Visitation was held on Saturday, Aug. 29, at Bass Patton Dean Funeral Home in Hillsboro. Funeral services followed at the funeral home with the Rev. Randy Sands of the Hillsboro Free Methodist Church officiating. Burial was at Oak Grove Cemetery in Hillsboro.

Mrs. Compton was born on Sept. 26, 1930, in Coffeen, to the late Virgil and Mary (Criner) Carlock. She married Richard E. Compton, on Aug. 1, 1948, in Donnellson and he preceded her in death on May 6, 2011.

During her lifetime, Mrs. Compton lived in Coffeen, Greenville and Donnellson, before moving to Hillsboro with her family in 1968. She worked in the packing department at Echlin, Inc., in Litchfield for many years and was a member of the Ladies of the Moose Lodge #1377 in Hillsboro.

Mrs. Compton is survived by three children, Richard (wife Ida) Compton of Hillsboro, Kay (husband Bill) Hefley of Hillsboro and Barbara (husband Jim) Mack of Barnhart, MO; six grandchildren, Ruby Hammarstedt, Ron Compton (companion Carmen Blythe), Chris Dobson, Brandy Rae Compton, Shannon (husband Chris) Luedike and Kyle (wife Abi) Mack; 14 great-grandchildren; five great-great grandchildren; and three sisters, Nelda Adkisson of Donnellson, Jewel White of Edwardsville and Melba Olson of Florida.

In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by one sister, Beulah Castleman; one son, Ronald Compton; and one grandson, Christopher Dobson.

The family suggests memorials to the Oak Grove Cemetery Association in Hillsboro.
