The Montgomery County Farm Bureau and Illinois Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) are hosting a household hazardous waste collection on Saturday, March 27, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Montgomery County Fairgrounds in Butler.
Residents are encouraged to bring oil-based paints, thinners, aerosol paint, cleaning products, insecticides, herbicides, pesticides, mercury, gasoline, antifreeze, used motor oil, fluorescent light bulbs, old and expired medication and household batteries.
Items that will not be accepted include latex paint, explosives, fireworks, ammunitions, fire extinguishers, needles, farm oil and agricultural chemicals, propane tanks, smoke detectors, lead batteries and controlled substances.
Latex paints are not considered hazardous and will not be accepted at this event. Latex paint can be safely dried and discarded with regular trash.
