Wayne and Ellen Spencer, of Taylorville, died in Spring of 2023. Mrs. Spencer, 80, died on June 14, 2023,  at her daughter’s home in Tuscumbia, AL., and Mr. Spencer, 82, unexpectedly died shortly before her on May 22, 2023, at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, TN.

Visitation will take place from 11 to 12 p.m. on Saturday, July 15, at Shafer-Perfetti & Assalley Funeral Home, 202 W. Franklin Street, Taylorville, IL 62568.  The memorial ceremony will follow at 12 p.m. with Rev. Dayle Badman officiating. Inurnment will be held at Asbury Cemetery in Raymond at a later date.

Mr. Spencer was born February 24, 1941, in Hillsboro, the son of Raymond and Delberta (Smith) Spencer.  He proudly served our country in the United States Air Force.  Mr. Spencer was employed by Horace Mann Insurance Company, retiring as a Senior Systems Consultant.

Mrs. Spencer was born March 23, 1943, in Hillsboro, the daughter of Raleigh and Jessie Pearl (McClaine) Scott.  She worked as a cosmetologist at Oak Terrace Nursing Center and Retirement Apartments until her retirement.

They were married on December 21, 1959, and enjoyed over 63 years of marriage.  They were longtime members of the First Presbyterian Church of Taylorville.

Mr. Spencer and Mrs. Spencer are survived by their daughters, Ronda (Don Patterson) Spencer of Tuscumbia, AL, and Kathy Spencer of Nokomis; grandchildren, Jessica (Patrick) Clark, Chris (Braden) Spencer, and Quentin (Samantha) Patterson; great granddaughters, Madison and Tatum Spencer; Mr. Spencer’s brother and sister-in-law, Joe and Donna Spencer; Mrs. Spencer’s sister, Betty Niesmann who passed away shortly after Mrs. Spencer on June 27, 2023; and several nieces and nephews.

They were preceded in death by their parents; son, Kurtis Spencer; Mr. Spencer’s brother, Howard “Tiny” Spencer; Mrs. Spencer’s brother, Fred Scott; Mrs. Spencer’s sister, Mary Heidbreder; and their brothers-in-law, John Heidbreder and Kenny Niesmann.
