Wendal Harry Burrus, 88, of Herrick, died Friday, Feb. 7, 2020, at HSHS St. John’s Hospital in Springfield.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, Feb. 11, at Ramsey Christian Church in Ramsey with Pastor Larry Daniel officiating. Burial followed in Myers Cemetery in Herrick. Miller Funeral Home in Ramsey was in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Burrus was born Dec. 24, 1931, in Herrick, the son of Cyrus Ivan and Lucinda Harriet “Hattie” (VanAmberg) Burrus. He married Betty A. Miller on Nov. 17, 1978, in Sherman, and she survives.

He worked for the Nickel Plate Railroad for 17 years, starting at the age of 15. He retired from Firestone after 29 years.

A U.S. Army veteran in the Korean War, he was a member of the Ramsey Christian Church, Anderson-Scroggins Post 460 American Legion in Ramsey and the Stephen Decatur Masonic Lodge #979.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by sons, Robin W. Burrus of Fillmore; Jim (Judy) Michael of Hoopeston, Rick Michael of Oconee, Lance (Julie) Pritts of Boody, Boyd Pritts of Mattoon and Chris (Ashley) Pritts of LeRoy; daughters, Lisa (Paul) Abbott of Neoga and Mitzi (Ron) Howell of Herrick; sister, Flossie Marmon of Pickerington, OH; 17 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by son, Terry; brothers, Frank, Terry and Marvin Burrus; and sisters, Bernadine, Rosaline, Deloris and Glenda.
