Wesley Eugene “Captain Wes Man” Jones, 72, of Inverness, FL, and formerly of Springfield, died peacefully at home on Friday, Oct. 16, 2026.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, Nov. 14, from noon to 2 p.m. at The Cove, located at 1242 S. Cove Camp Point, in Inverness, FL.
Mr. Jones was born on Dec. 19, 1953, in Springfield, the son of Clarence “Ed” and Ruth (Cox) Jones.
After graduating from Springfield High School, he went on to attend CASPN and University of Missouri where he earned several degrees and worked as a licensed practical nurse and radiographer before finding his true passion as a radiation therapist, the work he devoted most of his adult life to. Over the years, he treated and cared for countless patients in Memorial Medical Center in Springfield; Columbia, SC; Keesler Air Force Base Medical Center in Biloxi, MS; Cocoa Beach, FL; and the Robert Boissoneault Oncology Institute in Inverness and Lecanto, FL. He retired from the Robert Boissoneault Oncology Institute in Lecanto, FL, where he had proudly worked since 1992. He dearly loved and cherished his patients and colleagues, and the doctors who worked alongside him became some of his dearest friends.
In 2018, Mr. Jones married Elsie Johnston, and they made their home in Inverness for the rest of his life.
He loved life outdoors and being around a full table. His hobbies included deer hunting, deep-sea fishing, deep-sea chartering where he was commonly known by and referred to as “Captain Wes Man Jones,” scuba diving, karaoke, playing guitar and singing for his family and riding his Harley. He enjoyed a good plate of wings paired with a frosty mug and loved entertaining friends and family by grilling up steaks, making his traditional Sunday breakfast, deep-frying turkeys or cooking up a batch of his award-winning chili.
Mr. Jones had many friends and could make a new one just about anywhere, whether at the local pub or with someone he met by chance.
He will be deeply missed by all who knew him. His family takes comfort in the countless lives he touched, whether at a patient’s side, out on the water or around his table.
Mr. Jones was so proud of his family and loved them all dearly. He is survived by his wife, Elsa; his four children, Chris Jones (girlfriend, Michelle), Christine Stimac (Donnie) of Farmersville, Amanda Ryan (Michael) and Jayden Jones (companion, Elena); his ten grandchildren, Heather Kraus (Jonathan), Taryn Risley (Kasey), Tristyn Underwood, Denae Myers (Jordan), Cambria Underwood (fiancé, Fateh), Gracie Jones (fiancé, Tanner), Raelyn, Arya, Sheffy and Kelby; his three great-grandchildren, Evangeline, Brynlee and Max; his sister, Shirley Brown; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his beloved parents; brothers, Eddie, Carl Sr., Ronald Dean and Philip; nephews, Byron Jones and Ronald Wayne Brown Jr.; niece, Karen Armour; brother-in-law, Ronald Brown Sr.; and his “bonus son,” Craig Jones.
