Willa Carol Chumley, 92, of Litchfield, died Monday, May 10, 2021, at 5:30 a.m. at Heritage Health Therapy and Senior Care Center. 

Visitation will be held Friday, May 14, from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at Plummer Funeral Home in Litchfield. Graveside services will follow at 11 a.m. in Reno Bethel Cemetery in Reno with the Rev. Jake Wetterlin of St. Timothy United Methodist Church officiating.

Mrs. Chumley was born  Jan. 15, 1929, in Danville, a daughter of Walter William and Cleva Myrl (McCracken) Harding. She married Claude H. Gibson on Dec. 31, 1950, and they later divorced. She married John Samuel Chumley on Sept. 23, 1960, and he preceded her in death on Feb. 14, 1984.

A 1947 graduate of Carlinville High School, she went on to nursing school at Memorial Hospital in Springfield for two years. She was a registered nurse at Barry Care Center/Heritage Health for several years. She was a member of the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary, where she received several awards and accolades for her work. She was active in Republican Women’s functions and received letters from several presidents and politicians. She was an avid reader and enjoyed traveling.

She is survived by two sons, David W. Gibson of Helena, MT and James E. Gibson of Litchfield; one daughter, Ellen C. Chumley of Litchfield; and one brother, Robert W. Harding of Murphysboro.

In addition to her parents and husband, John, she was preceded in death by one brother, Dean F. Harding.
