William ‘Bill’ J. Beeler, 90

William “Bill” J. Beeler, 90, of Butler, died on Sunday, July 26, 2020, in Springfield.

Visitation will be held Thursday, July 30, from 12 to 2 p.m. at Hough and Sons Funeral Home in Hillsboro. Funeral services will follow, beginning at 2 p.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. Randy Sands officiating. Burial will be held in Asbury Cemetery in Raymond. Those attending services are encouraged to adhere to CDC guidelines by wearing masks and social distancing.

Mr. Beeler was born May 23, 1930, in Nokomis, to Leon Francis and Greta (Isley) Beeler. He married Nordella Mae Weerts on Dec. 27, 1956, in Centralia, and she preceded him in death on Oct. 1, 2007.

His family moved to Butler when he was six months old and he graduated from Hillsboro High School in 1948. He joined the U.S. Marines (Camp Pendleton) and served during the Korean War, from 1952 to 1954.

During his career, Mr. Beeler worked out of Wood River Labor Local #338 and received his 72-year pin.

He loved fishing, gardening and watching sports.

Mr. Beeler is survived by his daughter, Alice (Jeff) Cunningham of Butler; two sons, Sam (Debbie) Beeler of Butler and Ben (Diane) Beeler of Hillsboro; eight grandchildren, Chad (companion Judy Allen) Cunningham, Kimberly Cunningham, Shawn Cunningham, Veronica (Steve) Groom, Vicki (companion Hank Messmore) Spinner, Vanessa Pace, Adam (Meagan) Beeler and Brooke (Nathan) Lynch; 12 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents; parents-in-law, Heye and Emma (Seifert) Weerts; son, Tim Beeler in 1977; one great-granddaughter, Brianna Groom in 2004; brother, Leon Beeler; and sister, Mary Rita McInchak.

Memorials may be directed to Asbury Cemetery in Raymond or Butler Union Church.
