William Manning, 67

William “Bill” Manning, 67, of Sorento, died at 4:53 a.m. on Thursday, Aug. 1, 2019, at his residence in Panama.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 4, at Perfetti-Assalley Funeral Home, located at 201 South Main Street in Sorento. Funeral services will be held on Monday, Aug. 5, at 10 a.m. at the funeral home in Sorento, with Rev. Daniel Willenborg officiating. Interment will follow at Sunnyside Cemetery in Sorento.

Mr. Manning was born April 1, 1952, in Hillsboro, the son of Garlon “Red” and Virginia (Topornick) Manning, Jr.  He married Jeanette Collmann on March 6, 1971, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Panama. Mr. Manning graduated from Hillsboro High School in 1970, and went on to work for Rovey Farm and Sales in Farmersville, as well as farming the family farms. He was employed with the Shoal Creek Township Road Commission.

Mr. Manning enjoyed going to the rodeo in Ft. Madison, IA, and spending time with his family and friends. He was a past member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Panama, Mt. Olive ATA, and served  on the Bond County Board for ten years. Mr. Manning was a member of Shoal Creek Fox Hunters Association and Litchfield Senior Citizens, where he will be remembered for dressing up like Santa Claus.

Mr. Manning is survived by his wife; children, Robert “Bobby” (Tami) Manning of Sorento and  Stephanie (Kevin) Wernle of Greenville; grandchildren, Corey (fiancee Marissa Feldman) Manning of Sorento and Ashley Manning of Sorento; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; paternal grandparents, Garlon “Buddy” and Grace (Segrest) Manning, Sr.; and his maternal grandparents, Pete and Susie (Probla) Topornick.
