William D. Shalter, 68

William D. “Bill” Shalter, 68, of Sun City West, AZ, formerly of Ottawa, passed away early Tuesday, Aug. 27, 2019, at Banner Boswell Hospital in Sun City, AZ.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, Aug. 31 at the Praise Center Assembly of God with the  Rev. Raymond Mitchell officiating.  Interment followed in Oakwood Memorial Park.   Gladfelter-Roetker Funeral Home handled the arrangements.

Mr. Shalter was born April 5, 1951, in Reading, PA, to William H. and Betty (Dierolf) Shalter. He married Margaret J. Westerfield on June 9, 1973, in Greenwood, IN, and she survives in Sun City West, AZ.

A graduate of Indiana University with a bachelor of science degree in geology, Mr. Shalter had over 30 years of service with Unimin (Covia) in the environmental affairs department.

He was a former elder at Praise Center Assemblies of God and volunteered for more than a decade in their children’s program and regularly taught Bible and financial classes there. In addition, he was a member of the Gideon camp for over 20 years in Ottawa and Arizona.

In his free time, he enjoyed reading, swimming and playing the frustrating game of golf.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his mother, Betty Shalter of Greenwood, IN; two children, Rebekah (Shalter) Hall and her husband Daniel of Jasper, IN; Will Shalter and wife Melissa (Marusich) of Nokomis; five grandchildren and two sisters, Jane Philbrick her husband Brad Philbrick, and Beth Shalter. 

He was preceded in death by his father William H. Shalter.
