William L. Cruthis, 77

William “Bill” L. Cruthis, 77, died on Wednesday, March 4, 2026, at his home in Harlingen, TX.

A celebration of life will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 18, at the Shoal Creek Fire Hall in Sorento. A meal will follow the service. Meat and drinks will be provided, and friends are invited to bring a covered dish.

Mr. Cruthis was born on July 3, 1948, at St. Francis Hospital in Litchfield to Henry “Buster” and Pauline Cruthis. He married Sheryll (Salsedo) Cruthis on Feb. 8, 2024, in Raymondville, TX, and she survives. They enjoyed a happy retirement together, golfing and spending time with friends.

Mr. Cruthis attended grade school in Reno and Sorento before attending Bond County High School in Greenville. He was a career truck driver and had lived in Illinois, Colorado, Arkansas and Texas. He also drove for his nephew, Nathan Mollett, assisting with harvest at his farm in Mulberry Grove. He enjoyed being outdoors, hunting, fishing, and golfing. Above all, he loved spending time with his grandkids, nieces and nephews, to whom he was affectionately known as Pa and Uncle Bill.

In addition to his wife, Sheryll, Mr. Cruthis is survived by two stepdaughters, Annette (Chris) Poteet of Alvarado, TX, and Rhonda (Brian) Gregory of Gallatin, TN; two stepsons, Ron Mickle of Las Vegas, NV, and Michael Mickle of Evansville, IN; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two sisters, Elaine Niehaus Seward of Greenville and Sharon Blackburn of Coffeen; and many beloved nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Mr. Cruthis was preceded in death by Gail (Neathery/Varner) Cruthis, his wife of over 24 years; his parents; nephew Eldon John “Spanky” Niehaus; and grandparents Henry “Pete” and Lucy Cruthis and John and Daisy (Hensley) Joplin.
