The 113th Witt Labor Day celebration will be held this weekend, Saturday, Aug. 31 through Monday, Sept. 2.
The three-day celebration will kick off on Saturday, Aug. 31, with an open house at the Witt Area Historical Museum from 10 a.m. to noon. Alumni and guest will want to attend the Witt High School Alumni Reunion at the Witt Lions Building at 6 p.m. Registration of alumni and a social hour, featuring a cash bar, will be held from 4 to 6 p.m.
Saturday evening's festivities also include a bounce house, located in downtown Witt, from 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday evening will end with a live performance from The Strugglers, from 8 p.m. to midnight, at the beer pavilion.
Saturday evening church services include the 6 p.m. worship service at Cornerstone Christian Fellowship Church and 4 p.m. Mass at St. Louis Catholic Church in Nokomis.
Sunday church services include the 9:30 a.m. Sunday school and 10:30 a.m. worship service at Witt Christian Church, the 9:30 a.m. Sunday school and 10:45 a.m. worship service at First Presbyterian Church of Witt, the 8:45 a.m. worship service and 10:15 a.m. Sunday school at Witt United Methodist Church, the 8:30 a.m. Sunday school and 9:30 a.m. worship service at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in rural Nokomis, the 9:30 a.m. Sunday school and 10:30 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. worship services at Grace Baptist Church in Nokomis and the 9:00 a.m. Mass services at St. Louis Catholic Church in Nokomis.
Following church services, Sunday's activities will begin with the Witt Firemen's Pickers Market from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. This is the first year for the pickers market which will feature vendors selling merchandise, collectibles, memorabilia and antiques.
The market will be located in Downtown Witt just east of the carnival. Witt Area Museum will be open again to visitors from noon to 5 p.m.
The Car and Motorcycle Show will start at 12:30 p.m. with registration to be held from 9 a.m. to noon.
Trophy presentation will be held at 4 p.m. At 1 p.m., local competitors can test their skills at the Washer Pitch Contest, which will be held at the beer pavilion. Following the contest, a live performance will be held at the pavilion from 2 to 5 p.m.
The traditional Kiddie Parade will start at 4 p.m. and is sure to entertain crowds. Line-up for the Kiddie Parade will take place from 3:15 to 3:45 p.m between the firehouse and the city shed.
Parade winners will be announced at 4:30 p.m. at the bandstand. The bounce house will re-open, downtown, from 4 to 9 p.m.
The Witt pageant will be held at 6 p.m. at the grandstand, followed by a performance from After Midnight in the beer tent from 8 p.m. to midnight.
The final day of the yearly celebration, Monday, Sept. 2, will start with the annual Witt Labor Day Parade at 11 a.m. Registration will begin at 10 a.m. at Witt Lions Park.
This year's theme is Say It With Music, categories include commercial floats, youth groups, best comic, bicycles, tricycles and wagons, children's floats and antique cars. Parade winners will be announced downtown at noon.
An eye screening for children between 6 months to 6 years old, will be held from noon to 2 p.m. at City Hall. The bounce house will re-open from noon to 3 p.m. Witt area museum will be open to visitors from noon to 3 p.m. At 12:05 p.m., the Hillsboro High School Marching Hiltoppers will perform downtown. A pedal tractor pull will take place downtown, at 1 p.m. Registration for the pull will be held at noon. A washer pitch contest will also be held at 1 p.m., at the beer pavilion.
This year's festivities will culminate with a live performance from Salmon Creek from 3 to 6 p.m. at the beer tent. Drawings for prizes will take place at the bandstand at 6 p.m.
