Woman In Custody After IGA Car Theft

A Springfield woman faces two felonies, and charges on other suspects are pending after a vehicle was stolen from Capri IGA in Hillsboro on Christmas Eve.

Christina A. Fickas, 30, of Springfield was taken into custody on two felony charges and is next scheduled to appear in Montgomery County Circuit Court on Monday, Jan. 4.

According to Hillsboro Police Chief Randy Leetham, a 2019 Toyota Highlander was taken from the Capri IGA parking lot in Hillsboro at 8:13 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 24.  A suspect vehicle that was caught on video and later recovered near Coffeen was later found to be stolen from Arab, AL.

According to the police chief, debit and credit cards that were in the stolen Highlander were used in the Pontoon Beach area as well as Springfield.

At about 9:30 p.m. that night, the stolen vehicle was located in Christian County  after an accident.

More arrests and charges are pending, and the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office, Christian County Sheriff’s Office, Pontoon Beach Police Department, Springfield Police Department, and Illinois State Police crime scene unit are assisting the Hillsboro Police Department in the investigation.
